"Hello! My name is Miranda. I’m currently a graduate student, pursuing my master’s in mental health counseling with a focus on Expressive Arts Therapy at Lesley University. I am so excited to be joining the team at Denver Affordable Counseling. DAC is committed to helping every client, no matter what walk of life they come from. I am so excited to be joining our other expressive therapists, and to be bringing another form of arts-based therapy to our practice!
Expressive Arts Therapy is a field of counseling that focuses on helping clients heal and process using the arts. Perhaps you’ve heard of art therapy, music therapy, or drama therapy. These fields use their respective art forms in counseling. Expressive Arts Therapy is designed to use many artistic mediums to help our clients express themselves in whatever way feels most comfortable to them. This allows us to move between mediums to find the best ways to help our clients. Expressive arts therapy is not based on the skill level of the client. We find that healing happens in the artistic process, not only in the product. Therapeutic arts practices are not based on how well you make art, but rather on what emerges for you as you use the arts to connect to your authentic inner self in a space free from judgement and critique. Expressive Arts therapy can work, even if you’ve never picked up a pencil, danced a step, or played a note!"
